Therapeutic Ultrasound: The therapeutic use of ultrasound is common in the practice of chiropractic. It is used to treat a variety of conditions, ranging from bursitis to tendonitis and fibrous tissue to adhesions. The machine emits vibration which emits sound waves at a predetermined frequency. The sound waves travel from the transducer on the machine through the skin and into the subdermal tissues. The sonic energy causes molecules in the tissues to vibrate, causing friction, which in turn, is converted to energy in the form of heat. The primary result of ultrasound is the heat generated in the deeper tissues. |
